What is the Wellesley Community Center trying to evaluate?

The Wellesley Community Center (WCC) mission is to provide meeting space to its clients at the lowest possible cost.  It’s clients include the Council on Aging (COA), Friendly Aid Society, community groups such as the Girls Scouts, Boy Scouts, Garden Clubs, Rotary Clubs, etc.

Our building also provides space for special events such as luncheons, dinners, bar mitzvahs, dances, etc.  The building includes a commercial kitchen, high ceiling/large capacity banquet room, office space, conference room space, and either rents it out to tenants or use it for special events.

The building was constructed in the 1970’s and while maintained consistently, managed well, and supported by community donations, the needs of some of our important clients need a more suitable space.

We are working with the Board of Selectmen (BOS), the Council on Aging (COA), and our other strategic clients to evaluate renovation and rebuild alternatives to support the desire for a stand-alone Senior Center and a revitalized Community Center.

We believe our current site has the intrinsic value of the land, the parking, and the tradition of serving our town well through the WCC mission.  It also provides the town with a very economical choice regardless of the chosen design over earlier off-site alternatives.
